Sharegain’s mission to democratize is not limited to securities lending, it extends to all pillars of capital markets. As Haim Sabo explains in this blog, this guiding principle also extends to empowering our people to take control of their own finances.

Money worries can affect all areas of our lives. According to Calcalist, two out of three Israelis would have difficulty meeting a one-time expenditure of NIS 8000 (c. US$2,300), highlighting how today’s households have become increasingly fragile financially.

And yet, even though a seemingly minor financial decision (or indecision) can have terrific or horrendous results down the road, financial literacy isn’t taught at school. Many people also find money uncomfortable to talk about, and the active management of personal finances is too often neglected.

Avoiding your finances, however, is akin to postponing a visit to the Doctor in case it’s bad news. Maintaining good financial health is vital to an individual’s long-term health, happiness and success, and with the right tools and know-how, financial wellbeing can be easier to achieve.

Unlocking access to financial knowledge

In 2022 I launched Sharegain Finance. Born from my own passion in finance, and enthusiastically endorsed by Boaz Yaari, our CEO, the platform encourages colleagues to share resources, knowledge and experiences, and raise topics they find challenging. It’s an open forum, with the objective of unlocking access to knowledge far wider than our peoples’ day-to-day roles.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. For example, Guy Marcus, Senior Product Manager, told us that:

“The value-add goes far beyond the lectures. It’s about putting a spotlight on everyday financial related matters that affect all of us. From how the stock market works to better understanding our salary slips. It’s about raising awareness and ultimately changing our behaviors.”

Three reasons why businesses should share financial knowledge:

  1. Improve financial well-being. This can lead to increased job satisfaction and overall improved health and productivity.
  2. Enhance employee engagement. When your people are given the opportunity to learn and share experiences they are more likely to create trust and form new connections, as well as be more engaged in their work.
  3. Foster a positive and supportive work culture that values and prioritizes employee health and success.

2023 is set to be another financially challenging year, making it more important than ever that we all support each other in navigating the economic environment.
