Different cookies do different things and some are essential to the operation of our website whilst others are not. The different types of cookie we use are:
- Strictly necessary cookies.These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our website, such as your account, and make use of the various services we offer. Strictly necessary cookies do not gather any information that could be used for marketing purposes and they do not retain information beyond the end of your visit.
- Analytical/performance cookies.These allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors to our website and to see how you and other visitors move around our website. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are able to find what they are looking for easily. All information collected by these cookies is aggregated and therefore cannot be used to identify you.
- Functionality cookies.These are used to recognise you when you return to our website, enabling us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).
- Targeting cookies.These cookies record your visits to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our website and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose.
These cookies are not directly controlled by Sharegain and are likely to be analytical/performance cookies or targeting cookies. Such third parties may include, for example, advertising networks, providers of external services like web traffic analysis services, customer support and helpdesk services.
In particular, our website employs Google Analytics and LinkedIn cookies;
Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics cookies are used to collect information about how visitors use our website. The cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visitors to the website, where visitors have come to the website from and the pages they visited. We use the information to compile reports and to help us improve our website. Google holds this information and provides us with access to it. The lifespan of a Google Analytics cookie depends on what it is and what it is used for. Some expire at the end of your browser session, whilst others can last for up to two years.
You can find out how to opt out of Google Analytics by visiting: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
You can find out more about Google Analytics by visiting: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/cookie-usage
LinkedIn Insight tag
The LinkedIn Insight Tag is used on our website to enable in-depth campaign reporting and obtain useful insights about our website visitors. We use the LinkedIn Insight Tag to track conversions, retarget website visitors, and unlock additional insights about members interacting with our LinkedIn ads.The LinkedIn Insight Tag facilitates the acquisition of data regarding members’ visits to our website, including the URL, referrer, IP address, device and browser characteristics (User Agent), and timestamp. The IP addresses are truncated or hashed, and members’ direct identifiers are removed within seven days to make the data pseudonymous. This remaining pseudonymized data is then deleted within 180 days.
While you can disable non-essential third-party cookies manually by following the guidance provided above, our website enables you to automatically manage your cookie preferences once you access the website for the first time. The Cookie pop-up window enables users either to agree to all cookies or to disable non-essential cookies. However, please note that if you set your browser to not accept cookies, it may result in certain sections of our website not working properly and certain personalised services not being provided to users. You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking here. More general information about cookies can be found at: http://www.allaboutcookies.org/.
